Oriel Lace

I loved this pattern from the moment I saw it, but knew I couldn't afford over $200 for the yarn.

I eventually settled on Elann's Lara as a lower-cost replacement.

I had doubts about the high neck - that's usually not a flattering look for me - but decided to follow the pattern for once.

I've enjoyed working on this. It's so gorgeous that I wasn't interested in anything else.
I knit the back, then the front.

After finished the front I realized there was no neck shaping at all... that just seems weird. When I looked at the magazine pictures in more detail I noticed there seems to be some extra fabric where there should be neck shaping.

Why not shape the neck? Is there something about the lace that isn't conducive to shaping?
I thought I'd try blocking the 2 completed pieces and evaluate from there. Now the neck seems like a minor problem. The whole thing is too small.

I'm disgusted.

Very, very sorry to hear this. Can you contact the pattern people for help?

Hmm... like green? what if I made mine larger? =)

I can contact the pattern people but I don't think they can help with the fact that I made the wrong size.

Green..I like green. But I'm worried about how far you've gotten.

We can see if yours fits me and then decide from there. What are the chances that mine might be too small too and I'd have to start over anyway?

Hi there,
I am about to start with the oriel lace blouse too. But I will make it in to a v-neck. I think the back and front are knitted in the same way except the neck so if you make the front to a back piece and make a v-neck fron you would be able to go on.

You know, you could always give it to a friend... one not blessed with your ginormous chest...

You know what I think: rip, redo. Because I am not a quitter. I may completely destroy the yarn with revision after revision, but dammit, IT WILL GET DONE.

Mitz, I think you're right. It needs a v-neck. But the pattern back as written is more of slit. I'm thinking that with a v-neck it may need some type of edging to stabilize the lace. I think first I'll try reblocking to see if I can get the right size, then I'll decide on the next step.
